See You at The Top by Zig Ziglar

Excerpts from the book

see you at the top by zig ziglar
Man was designed for accomplishment, engineered for success, and endowed with the seeds of greatness.

You are the only one who can use your ability. It is an awesome responsibility.

I stress that you can get everything in life you want only if you help enough other people get what they want.

An idea unrecorded is an idea often lost!

Ability is important - dependability is critical.

The real opportunity for success lies within the person and not in the job; that you can best get to the top by getting to the bottom of things - and then climbing those stairs - one at a time.

Within the pages of See You At The Top, you will learn that you really "enjoy" a price rather than "pay" a price. I say this because the price of success is much lower than the price of failure.

You already have every characteristic necessary for success. You have some character, faith, integrity, honesty, love, and loyalty

When you get you right - your world will be right.

Your "natural resources," unlike the natural resources on planet Earth, will be wasted and "used up" only if they are never used at all.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life

Winning is not everything, but the effort win to is.

Your success and your happiness start with you.

You already have the ability necessary for success.

In your hands you hold the seeds of failure - or the potential for greatness.

Success is not a destination, it's a journey, it's the direction in which you are traveling.

You can get everything in life you want, if you help enough other people get what they want.

What's inside you that will make you go up.

If we don't start, it's certain we can't arrive.
When your image improves, your performance improves.

You cannot consistently perform in a manner that is inconsistent with the way you see yourself.

Mind completes whatever picture we put in it.

There is little you can learn from doing nothing.

Dr. Joyce Brothers, well known author, columnist and psychologist says, "An individual's self-concept is the core of his personality.

Education and intelligence are not the same thing.

Opportunity for growth and service lies with the individual.

Experience has nothing to do with ability.

There is no such thing as a "good" memory or a "bad" memory; it is either trained or untrained.

Take what you have and use it and your talent will be increased which brings more rewards, etc.

STEP 1:  SELF-IMAGE
FIFTEEN STEPS TO A HEALTHY SELF IMAGE:

1. Take inventory. Nobody on the face of this earth can make you feel inferior without your permission 2. MAKE UP - DRESS UP - GO UP. The way you look on the outside has a definite bearing on how you feel and see yourself on the inside.
3. Regularly read Horatio Alger stories. Read the biographies and the autobiographies of the men and women of every race, creed and color who used what they had and got a great deal out of life by making contributions to life.
 4. Listen to the speakers, teachers and preachers who build mankind.
5. Build a healthy self-image with a series of short steps. One reason many people never attempt new things is their fear of failure.
6. Join the smile and compliment club. When you smile at someone and they smile back, you automatically feel better [and it definitely increases your "face" value]. Even if they don't smile back, you will feel better because you know the most destitute person in the world is the one without a smile.
7. Do something for someone else. "Noone is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it to anyone else."
8. Be careful of your associates. Deliberately associate with people of a high moral character who look on the bright side of life, and the benefits will be enormous. "you acquire much of the thinking, mannerisms and characteristics of the people you are around."
9. To build your self-image, make a list of your positive qualities on a card and keep it for handy reference.
10. Make a victory list to remind you of your past successes. The list should include those things that gave you the most satisfaction and confidence. This list should extend from childhood to the present time.
11. To build a healthy self-image, there are some things you must avoid. Pornography is the primary one. "the "science" of astrology was founded on the assumption that the sun revolves around the earth."
12. To improve your self-image, learn from the successful failures. Like Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth.
13. One of the best, quickest and most effective ways to improve your image and your performance is to join an organization with worthwhile goals that requires you to participate by speaking.
14. Look you - and them - in the eye. Almost without exception the man on the street as well as the highly educated professional will tell you they like people who will "look them in the eye."
15. Alter your physical appearance when possible, practical and desirable.

STEP 2:  YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS
purpose –
  1. To clarify the way you should see other people
  2. To sell the concept that you treat other people like you see them
  3. To establish - you can get everything in life you want if you help enough other people get what they want
  4. To identify genuine love and give specific suggestions on how to court - after you are  married. (Single folks already know)
  5. You can get everything in life you want if you help enough other people get what they want
STEP 3: GOALS
purpose –
  1. To sell you on the importance of goals in your personal and professional life
  2. To explain why most people never set goals
  3. To identify the kinds of goals you should have
  4. To elaborate on the characteristics of your goals
  5. To sell out in specific detail how to set your goals
  6. To give a detailed procedure on how to reach your goals
STEP 4: ATTITUDE
purpose –
  1. To demonstrate the importance of a right mental attitude
  2. To identify some of the many characteristics of attitude
  3. To insure your attitude against stinkin' thinkin'
  4. To give you a four-step formula on how to control your attitude so that regardless of the circumstances your attitude foundation is solid
  5. To point out that when you choose a habit, you also choose the end result of that habit
  6. To teach you how to avoid and/or eliminate destructive habits and acquire good ones.
  7. We can alter our lives by altering our attitude
STEP: 5 WORK
purpose –
  1. To sell the idea "There ain't no free lunch"
  2. To clarify the difference between 'Paying a price" and "Enjoying a price"
  3. To introduce you to a new attitude as it relates to your job or profession
  4. To explain why you must put something in life before you can get anything out
  5. The most practical, beautiful, workable philosophy in the world won't work - if you won't
  6. Success occurs when the opportunity meets preparation
STEP: 6 DESIRE
purpose –
  1. To fan your motivational flame to such an intensity that the hot water of mediocrity is converted to the steam of overwhelming desire
  2. To introduce you to intelligent ignorance and teach you how to take life's lemons and convert them to lemonade
  3. To learn how to use obstacles as stepping stones to the richer life
  4. To sell you on free enterprise and to point out the positive aspects of the America I love, to emphasize its strength, compassion, and goodness with special attention reserved for the unique opportunities America offers you
  5. To clearly identify the steps you can take to preserve and make America even stronger
STEP: 7 YOU ARE AT THE TOP
